An insightful Industry–Academia Interaction Meet was successfully organized by the Postgraduate Departments of Economics and Statistics at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The event took place at the Ramanujan Hall, Department of Mathematics.
The primary objective of this high-level meeting was to create awareness among postgraduate students and research scholars about emerging career opportunities in statistics across government and private sectors. Additionally, the discussion focused on aligning academic curriculum structures with evolving global industry standards.
The program was conducted under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Manali Kshirsagar. The session began with a welcome address by Dr. Ganesh Kedar, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, who highlighted the growing importance of data science and statistical analysis in modern policy-making.
In her introductory remarks, Dr. Niyati Joshi, Deputy Director General, Household Survey Division (HSD), National Statistical Office Nagpur, provided an overview of NSO’s functioning. She emphasized the crucial role of large-scale sample surveys in shaping national economic indicators.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Ajay Bakshi, Additional Director General, NSO Kolkata, who shared deep insights into the field of official statistics. He elaborated on the evolving landscape of data collection and evaluation, and guided students of M.A. (Economics) and M.Sc. (Statistics) on building careers within the national statistical system. He also stressed the need for academic institutions to stay aligned with rapidly changing industrial and technological trends.
An engaging Q&A session followed, where students and researchers actively interacted with NSO experts on topics such as internships, fieldwork methodologies, and essential technical skills required in today’s competitive job market.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. S.H. Indurwade, Head of the Department of Economics, expressing gratitude for the valuable guidance provided by NSO officials. The event was coordinated and anchored by Dr. Aparna Samudra, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students and research scholars from various university departments and affiliated colleges.
